"Bird Watching"
|
This drawing is a combination of a few different concepts that were floating around in my head for a while. I have been interested in using charcoal pencil more in my pieces, especially in darker areas. The charcoal is a nice way of achieving deep, rich tones without creating shine on the paper. I haven't drawn a bird or a bird-related drawing for a long time. Finally, I wanted to try my hand at Trompe L'Oeil (pronounced "Tromp Loy"), which is a French term meaning to fool the eye. This piece is a combination of those divergent ideas. It was quite fun to work on this piece and I believe it may lead to another drawing using the same techniques.
