Faithful Companion

This drawing depicts a Black Labrador Retriever after a successful day with his owner. The composition provides a combination of several ideas. The fence post serves to divide the scene vertically: the left side representing the faithful companion and the right side representing the fruits of long-time cooperation between man and dog. Not only is the shotgun the means by which a triangle of the hunt is completed, it also serves to remind the viewer of the owner’s presense without requiring him to be in the frame. It also serves to separate the dog from the game, reinforcing its purpose in fulfilling the hunt.

The drawing took approximately 20 hours to complete. The original is in a private collection in Billings, Montana.

This print is available only as an 11" x 14" Limited Edition for $35.00.
